He may be 97, he may have not faced the camera for 37 years and he may have not stepped out of his house in five months but as they say, an artist never forgets his art. Veteran actor A.K. Hangal makes a special appearance on our prime time show Madhubala-Ek Ishq Ek Junoon where he plays himself.
In this sequence a pregnant Padmini, who has ran away from her husband and is now working as a junior artiste, is shooting a godh bharai scene when she goes into actual labor and is forced to give birth on set. And here comes the entry of A.K. Hangal who comes in to give his blessings and is then asked by Padmini to christen the child. And hence the birth of Madhubala. Named by the veteran himself, Madhubala is considered the child of the industry.
The actor who hasn’t done any roles in a very long time was more than excited to be in front of camera again and came on sets with full enthusiasm and curiosity about his role. Saurabh Tewari, Nautanki Films’ commented, “Looking at him excited even at this age to act, everybody on sets couldn’t help but applaud for this great man. It was a memorable experience to work with him.”
Even though he was on wheelchair, A.K. Hangal managed to come on sets for a day and when he came in, like a professional, he enquired about his scene and his lines and in just one-take shot the full scene. Commendable really! Saurabh Tewari mentioned, “We asked him to do a rehearsal first and were secretly trying to shoot it. Once that was done we asked him to give a take and he said ‘didn’t you just shoot that?’ You can’t fool around with the expert!”
Be it just for one scene, we are happy to have A.K Hangal be a part of our Colors family. To watch the video, click here.
